San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild was founded in 1984 with the purpose of sponsoring fundraising projects to support cancer research. In 1995 the Guild partnered with USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. We support the Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Program under the direction of Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz. We have over 70 members, and have raised over $3 million dollars to date.

Our Annual Fashion Show is a highlight of the year—bringing together a lively group of women for an afternoon of style, connection, and community. While the models walk the runway, our members enjoy the show from the audience, sharing laughs, conversation, and a shared commitment to making a difference. It’s a fun, feel-good event that reflects the heart of our organization: active, engaged women coming together to support a meaningful cause.
We are a devoted group of grassroots, local women who generously give their time, talents, and/or treasures to champion cancer research, supporting the vital work of Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. United by compassion and purpose, we are making a meaningful difference—one act of service, one fundraiser, one voice at a time.
In the fall of 1983, the American Cancer Society reached out to Josephine Nizetich to develop a cancer support group in the Harbor area. Though the task seemed daunting, Josephine recognized the need and enlisted eight
dedicated women and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild was born. The Guild quickly expanded to 42 members.
Their inaugural event, a fashion show and luncheon, was a sellout success. This led to the creation of our signature fundraiser, “An Affaire to Remember.”
In 1996, the Guild named USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center as its primary beneficiary. Since then, our contributions have funded various research projects and are currently funding a post-doctoral fellow who is
conducting research in gastrointestinal cancer under the leadership of Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz.
Today, the Guild boasts 71 members, including ten original charter members.
With your continued support, we hope to surpass the $3 million donation mark in the near future.
Congratulations to our Founding and Charter members for being the guiding light of San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild for 40 remarkable years.
